ICAL Staff Bio’s

Josh Swider

Co-Founder/CEO

Josh began his career in chemistry at Eastern Washington University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and degrees in physics and biology. His quest for a deeper understanding of science led him to graduate school, where he attended the joint doctoral program at the University of California, San Diego, and San Diego State University. Josh saw the problems in the analytical cannabis industry with the lack of analytical research and public understanding associated with it. He wanted to change this, and with his knowledge and passion for the industry, Josh founded the lab with fellow chemist Dave Marelius in 2016. Together they’ve made it InfiniteCAL’s mission to ensure only safe; quality products are allowed to be sold to consumers.

David Marelius

Co-Founder/CSO

Born and raised in San Diego, Dave attended San Diego State University in 2009, where he received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Dave then went on to earn his Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program between SDSU and the University of California, San Diego, where, for his graduate work, he utilized organic and organometallic synthesis to make catalysts for water splitting, the conversion of water into oxygen and hydrogen for energy storage. As a graduate student, he received the IPMI Richard Rubin Memorial Scholarship in 2014 for his research in precious metals. He decided to apply his knowledge and experience to the cannabis industry and has assisted in developing industry-leading methods of analysis for cannabis and hemp testing since co-founding the lab in 2016.

David Egerton, M.S.

Lab Director

Originally from the Midwest, David Egerton received his masters degree in chemistry from the University of Louisville in 2011 where he worked on the development of portable spectrophotometers for use in archaeological surveys. After briefly working on the development of a tissue culture operation at an Oakland (CA) cannabis cloning nursery, he began his career at one of the world’s first cannabis QA laboratories in Oakland as an analyst in 2011. Over the last eight years, David became intimately familiar with all aspects of Cannabis Lab operations and left California after serving as Vice President of Technical Operations and subsequently as Laboratory Director. He has collaborated and published method papers with instrument manufacturers as well as peer laboratories, and consulted on the development and refinement of several commercial cannabis products. Although he is new to Michigan and to InfiniteCAL, David is very excited to bring his experience to Michigan’s Cannabis Community.

Andy Sattler, Ph.D.

Lab Manager

A native of Washington state, Andy joined InfiniteCAL in 2019 after earning his Ph.D. in biochemistry and completing a postdoctoral scholarship appointment at the University of Missouri in Columbia. His scientific background is primarily in structure-guided protein design, leading him to involvement in projects ranging from uncovering the molecular etiologies of human diseases to altering catalytic pathways at the genomic level for optimizing bio fuel production. He moved to Michigan in August of 2019 at the onset of the Midwestern expansion and currently lives in Jackson.

Joe Maricelli, Ph.D.

Lab Manager

Joe was born and raised in Western Montana where he attended Carroll College.  He conducted his undergraduate research on the detection and mapping of West Nile Virus in the local mosquito population using reverse transcriptase RT-qPCR.  Joe then went on to receive his Ph.D in Molecular Biosciences from Washington State University, where he studied gene therapy efficacy for muscular dystrophy and helped publish five separate peer reviewed articles.  He’s excited to be a part of the ICAL team surrounded by brilliant scientists and state of the art instruments.  In his free time Joe enjoys reading, exploring Michigan- his new home- and pub trivia.
